Palace On Wheels

Udaipur - City Palace on the shores of Lake Pichola.  The palace was started by Maharaja Udai Singh of the Sisodia Rajput clan and extended to its present form by subsequent Maharanas. Built in granite and marble and surrounded by crenellated fort walls, it is the largest palace complex in  Rajasthan.  Near the entrance, at the Elephant Gate or 'Hati Pol', rulers were once weighed against gold or silver and the equivalent value was distributed among the poor.
