Thailand • Grand Palace 2
Hot does not begin to describe this day, but the sights were well worth it.  We kept hydrated
and we kept dousing our shirts.  Guardians abound, the emerald Buddha is actually jade,
shoulders are covered and shoes removed.  Happy New Year, Thailand!

Lacquered doors, mosaic roof, golden elves on the
lawn.  What more could you want?

One of those funky guardians doing his thing.
Note the people in the background for scale.

Shrine outside the Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Door frame for one of two backdoors into the
Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

The white stone one.

Detail of an epic mural which covers the entire
interior of the wall surrounding the dozen buildings
around the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Red is our thing these days.
These doors were fabulous.

Smaller guardians, but no less dedicated,
surround the Phra Siratana Chedi.
(or as we called it:  The big round gold one.)

Yet more guardians doing their jobs.

The story includes mermaid abduction,
monkeys and gods with really large tongues.
