Dordogne, France - La Roque Saint Christophe  This is a natural ledge running along the limestone 50 feet above the winding Dordogne river.  Humans have enhanced the living conditions over the centuries, beginning approximately 50,000 years ago.  It was more or less continually inhabited from that time until the 16th century.  Sometime in the last millennium they even had a church with a bell tower cut into the overhang.
